These steel scales are crafted from 20 gauge steel. The are ready to be sewn onto a leather or cloth backing to create your own piece of scale armor. They typically come with some dried preservative oils and sometimes patches of light rust. Both are quickly removed with a light buffing from a rust pad. Light scratches on the surface are common.
