This bold shield with its Scorpion design marks its bearer out as one among the famed Praetorian Guard of Rome. Crafted from thick poplar and tightly bound in linen, it is built in the traditional manner for strength and resilience. Stout reinforcing battens brace the reverse, while a secure central grip ensures confident handling in formation or on the march. The face is hand-painted to a high standard, displaying its commanding insignia band the perimeter is finished with brass edging. A polished brass boss completes the shield and gives it the authoritative presence befitting the powerful and influential members of the Praetorian Guard. Please Note: The shield ships without the shield boss attached. It is attached to the shield base with simple screws which are capped with brass caps that emulate the appearance of brass rivets.
