Medium Shield Boss- 14 Gauge Steel Every member of Draugar Vinlands uses one of these bosses on their shield. None of them have ever failed. They are well made and they are thick enough to offer very good protection against weapons piercing the shield and hitting your shield hand. The design is simple and there are many examples of this style, and size of shield boss being found in archaeological digs. When the boss comes to your door it will be oiled very shiny and packed in bubble wrap. I usually flame blacken my boss by leaving it in a fire for about ten minutes and then pulling it out with tongs and fast quenching it in a bucket of water. When you pull it out of the water using the same tongs it will be an iron grey blue color. You can also use “Gun Bluing” solution to get the same effect but I prefer to stay away from the hassle of using chemicals.
