The Roman Arena Scutum Shield is crafted from poplar wood and layered with tightly bonded linen on its front and back. The shield grip is a wooden horizontal bar and its shield boss is crafted from brass. The shield is edged in riveted brass banding and it is finished with hand-painted design. Please Note: The shield ships with the shield boss unmounted, so some assembly is required. Mounting hardware is included. The hue of the shield colors can vary. Please Note: it is common for this item to have patination on the brass shield rim and shield boss – it can be cleaned to a bright sheen with polishing paste and scuff pads.
